GEAR UP with Raven Hill Day 1

Raven Hill will be visited our classroom on Thursday. They were supposed to be back Friday but due to the snow day, they will be rescheduling.

They are bringing a new program called Gear Up; Great Engineering Adventures in Robotics for Unlimited Potential. They will be reviewing 4th grade science concepts and doing hands on activities with the students to strengthen their understanding of force and motion, simple machines, electricity and magnetism, as they relate to robotics engineering.

States of Matter

Thank you Mrs. Wochoski for coming in to make ice cream with our class!! At the end of our Properties of Matter Unit, Mrs. Wochoski volunteered to bring in her ice cream maker to show us how the ice cream changes from a liquid to a solid. The class loved studying science and eating ice cream at the same time. :)

Mackinaw Historic Parks

Mrs. Cantrell and I LOVE when the Mackinaw Historic Parks visit our classes. This year we were able to get a grant to cover their visit. They do a great job teaching the students about Michigan history and keeping them entertained as well. Our students also did a great job answering questions they asked. Both presenters were very impressed! Go Alanson Vikings!!

Book-It!!

Congratulations to the 4th graders for winning Book-It for January, with 100% of the class meeting their individual goals!!!

Solid AND Liquid!!!!

As we work on finishing our science Unit on Properties of Matter, we had a fun lab on matter that is both a solid and a liquid. Students helped to make flubber and, goo or oobleck, in order to see both states of matter at one time. They had a great time, made a huge mess and learned a lot! Check out our pictures for proof. Try it at home if you get a chance.
